The Cardiac Rehabilitation Fund is a registered charity which was founded over 25 years ago by Ron & Gaynor Colbourne. It is dedicated to raising funds to support the rehabilitation of those who have experienced heart problems. The motto of the Fund is ‘Quality is the essence of life’ which sums up the importance it places on helping people to regain their quality of life after a cardiac diagnosis.
The Hospital and community based cardiac rehabilitation programmes are a vital part of the recovery process for both patients and family. In 1987 the Fund was instrumental in supporting the appointment at the Royal Gwent hospital of the first Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse in Wales. Multi disciplinary cardiac rehabilitation programmes were in their infancy across the UK at that time and the support of the Fund in developing this vital new service was essential. Hospital based cardiac rehabilitation services expanded to meet local need leading to the development of innovative community based programmes in partnership with local leisure and community education centres. Gwent now has one of the largest networks of community based education in Wales.
